HI all,

Well I have had it...absolutely had it with my bn apex. It simply isn't built to withstand what I ask of it. As such I've been offered a trade of either a packmate omni or a braille sense plus from two of my friends who are equally disillusioned. I have a few questions though and would be very greatful if people could answer them for the braille sense or the packmate. For those of you who suggest mainstream devices instead...believe me, I am, but leave that discussion out of here, please.

1. can they read pdf, doc, docx files, including the use of tables and footnotes?
2: can I have multiple documents open at once, even large ones?
3: will they sync under windows 7? I know that active sync is no longer supported, but windows mobile device centre under 64 bit has failed me in the past. Will contacts and calendars sync from outlook and any folders I designate?
4. can they do Imap?
5: if I am given an older unit , the SMA of which has run out, what are the policies on upgrading the software?
6. What is the battery life and can batteries be replaced?
7. Can I input and read documents in multiple languages easily?

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
MJ

Hi. I can't answer all of your questions, but I will do my best to answer a few.
First of all, what version of KeySoft do you have? I have read that KeySoft 9.2 supports pdf and docx files, though I haven't yet upgraded my machine and don't know how well the layout of a table or footnote would be displayed. I know it already supports simple doc files created using Word 2003. As far as I know, the Braille Sense supports doc files but not docx or pdf. I can switch between English and French on my Apex, but I don't know if other languages are supported on other machines.

The Apex also supports Spanish, Italian, and German. You'll need to enable any or all four of these languages in utilities to use them, though. Again, I don't know what other languages the Braille Sense or the PacMate support.
